Driving under the influence of drugs can have serious consequences. In fact, many car accidents involving such drivers involve harm to innocent passengers or others who may come into contact with them. Unfortunately, police in California believe that a recent fatal collision was caused by a man who was under the influence of drugs.
The accident happened in the early morning hours of a day in June. According to reports, a 33-year-old man lost control of his vehicle just before 1 a.m. As a result, the vehicle overturned. A 36-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was ejected and died as a result of her injuries.
Police claim that the driver attempted to run from the scene. Law officers, however, were able to detain him with the use of a Taser. The man reportedly suffered a broken leg and internal injuries to his chest. Although he is hospitalized, he is listed in fair condition. Police believe that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident, and he has been arrested.
In many cases, criminal charges provide some sense of closure following the unexpected death of a family member. However, families often find themselves struggling financially, as well as emotionally, due to loss of wages and funeral expenses. Many victims of car accidents seek relief from the financial consequences of an unexpected loss in a California civil court. A successfully presented claim of negligence can result in an award of damages that will allow surviving family members to cope with the financial complications created by the death of their loved one.
