California car accidents: Collision kills father, mother

by | Mar 21, 2016 | Car Accidents, Firm News

While most people are likely aware of the potential of being involved in a car accident, the thought of doing so is likely far from their minds. Unfortunately, people in California are killed in car accidents every day, leaving family members wondering how they will cope with their losses. One family is likely left with many questions after a recent collision took the lives of a mother and father.

The accident happened at approximately 11:30 p.m. one night in mid-March. A van carrying six people was headed west on a California road. An eastbound truck allegedly crossed into their lane of traffic, causing a head-on collision. As a result, the van overturned, coming to a rest in a canal near the roadway.

An occupant of a passing vehicle says he was able to pull three children and a 24-year-old adult from the vehicle. Unfortunately, he claims that the driver and front passenger, presumably the parents of the children, were trapped under the vehicle. They died at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck suffered major injuries and required extrication from his vehicle. It is unclear if criminal charges are expected to be filed as a result of the accident.

Unfortunately, three children are now facing life without their parents. While nothing will likely fill that void, many victims of car accidents — including surviving loved ones — choose to file civil lawsuits. When it can be proved that harm was caused as a result of another’s negligence, a court will often order a driver to pay damages to an injured party or parties to help with the financial ramifications of such a loss.
