California motorcycle accidents: Police investigate fatal crash

by | May 2, 2015 | Firm News, Motorcycle Accidents

Because there is relatively little protection offered to motorcyclists, accidents involving such vehicles are often serious. As a result, it is necessary for both motorcyclists and other drivers to remain vigilant in order to prevent serious and even fatal motorcycle accidents. Police in California are currently investigating a fatal accident involving a motorcycle.

The accident happened on a California interstate one afternoon in late April. According to police reports, a motorcycle driven by a 26-year-old male was splitting lanes when the motorcycle struck three vehicles. Both the driver and his 19-year-old female passenger were ejected as a result.

Unfortunately, the female passenger died at the scene of the accident. The driver suffered only minor injuries, and his identity has not been released at this time. Three lanes of traffic were closed for approximately four hours as a result of the collision.

For some people who came across the accident, it may have been no more than a traffic nuisance. However, it is a devastating event for the family of the deceased young woman. In addition to the obvious emotional ramifications of such a loss, some people find themselves unable to cope with the financial consequences of a loss, including funeral expenses. Many victims of motorcycle accidents — or their loved ones in the event of fatalities — seek damages in California civil court. If it can be successfully argued that an accident was caused by another’s negligence, the court could order an award of damages to help with the financial consequences of an accident.
