Since the invention of motor vehicles, designers of automobiles have been striving to refine safety features to protect drivers and passengers. Unfortunately, there are fewer options available to protect motorcyclists. As a result, motorcycle accidents in California and across the country can have serious, even deadly, consequences. For example, one man was recently killed in such an accident. Police suspect his death may have been caused by a hit-and-run driver.
The accident happened in early April. According to reports, a motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle, causing him to go over a railing on a connector ramp leading to a California highway. Unfortunately, he died as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident.
Police are working to determine what exactly caused the biker to lose control of the cycle. However, some witnesses say that the accident resulted from a collision with a white sports utility vehicle. These witnesses report that the driver of the SUV initially stopped but then fled the scene. Witnesses or anyone with additional information are asked to contact the authorities.
Unfortunately, the family of the deceased California man is likely working through the grief created by the loss of their loved one. While most people will likely recognize the grief the family is experiencing, many may be unfamiliar with the potential financial ramifications of such a loss. Once police identify the driver of the SUV, the man’s surviving loved ones could choose to pursue civil litigation. Many victims of motorcycle accidents, including relatives in the event of a fatality, have chosen similar action in an attempt to cope with the financial and other consequences of their loss.
