It seems that in a single moment, many people’s lives are changed forever, often through no fault of their own. For example, a moment of distraction or miscalculation can result in car accidents that will have a drastic impact. While the exact cause of a recent accident in California is unclear, one man has been arrested after his passenger was killed.
The accident happened in the early morning hours of a day in February. According to reports, an 18-year-old man was driving a truck also occupied by a 22-year-old male passenger on a California road when it left the roadway and went down the side of a mountain. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, was able to walk to the road to summon help.
The passenger passed away as a result of the injuries he suffered in the accident. Police say that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time and has since been arrested. He is being held on $100,000 bail.
Because of this accident, the life of the young driver as well as those of the deceased man’s family members are forever changed. The family of the passenger will have to cope with both their grief and the financial ramifications of the man’s death. Many victims of car accidents in California have chosen to seek financial relief by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court. If they provide sufficient evidence to prove that an accident was the fault of another, the court could award them with damages in accordance with state law.
