How severe is your concussion?

On Behalf of | Jul 22, 2020 | Car Accidents

When California residents get involved in an accident, head trauma may follow. One of the most common types of head injuries is the concussion. Despite how common it is, that does not make it less dangerous. A concussion can wreak havoc on a victim.

Concussion symptoms vary from person to person and case to case. It is important to understand where your symptoms fall. This allows you to seek better care.

Severity of concussion vs. symptoms

Mayo Clinic takes a look at different categories of concussion symptoms. The primary categories are physical, emotional and mental symptoms. Some cases do not have symptoms in all three categories. If you do not, chances are you have a milder form of concussion.

The more severe the concussion is, the more symptoms you will show. For example, someone with a severe concussion may have a piercing migraine. They may also experience increased aggression and confusion. They may lash out at loved ones. They may not control their impulses well. In some cases, they may not even have full awareness of what they are doing when they do it.

Concussive memory loss

Memory loss is also common. This may occur at any stage of concussion. But it is most common among those with moderate to severe symptoms. This memory loss may extend to the traumatic event that caused the injury. It may also result in short-term memory loss. Again, this is more common among the worse cases of concussion. Regardless of how severe a concussion seems, it is important to see a doctor. Only a professional can determine the level of concussion you have and the care you need.
