California car accidents caused by ignoring traffic lights

In order to obtain a driver’s license, a potential driver must prove his or her knowledge of basic traffic laws. As a result, all drivers must know they are required to stop at a red traffic light. However, in a moment of distraction, a person could fail to notice a red light. Other times, a driver might simply choose to ignore the light. Unfortunately, both of these scenarios could result in serious, even fatal, car accidents. For example, an accident in California recently took the life of a woman allegedly struck as a result of another individual's failure to obey a traffic light.

Police reports indicate that a 66-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck on a California road one day in mid-August. They say that her truck was struck by a second pickup truck whose driver apparently ignored a red traffic signal. According to reports, the force of the collision pushed the first truck into a van.

The driver of the first pickup was taken to an area hospital. Unfortunately, she died from the injuries she suffered in the accident. No one else was injured. While police do not believe that alcohol played a role in the accident, they claim it could take a month or longer to complete their investigation.

While the police are finishing their investigation, the family of the deceased woman will have to deal with the emotional and financial implications of her unexpected death. While it may not alleviate the emotional toll, many victims of car accidents, or their families in the case of a fatality, have found relief for the financial burden in a California civil court. Some who proved such an accident was caused by another’s negligence were awarded monetary damages in accordance with state law.
