California crash reminder of dangers of motorcycle accidents

A recent crash in California has officials reminding drivers of their responsibilities toward all users of the roadways. Unfortunately, differences in sizes could make it more difficult to see certain users of the roadways, potentially causing motorcycle accidents, for example. A recent accident has resulted in one fatality and sent another to the hospital.

The incident happened one afternoon in July. According to reports, a husband and wife, both 64, were headed north on a California roadway on a motorcycle. A sports utility vehicle, driven by a 59-year-old man, allegedly pulled into their path.

As a result, the motorcycle reportedly struck the front of the SUV, ejecting both of the motorcycle's occupants. The wife was transported to the hospital by helicopter but, ultimately, passed away as a result of her injuries. The husband suffered moderate injuries. Police say that the accident was caused by the SUV driver's failure to yield the right of way to the motorcyclists. The driver of the SUV was not injured in the crash.

The accident is an important reminder about the potential impact of motorcycle accidents. Because motorcyclists, pedestrians and bicyclists may be more difficult to see, drivers must be especially vigilant. As a result of this incident, a family is now grieving the loss of a loved one. Her husband may face a long road to recovery as well. As a result of funeral expenses, lost wages and medical bills, the family may also face a difficult financial future; however, victims of negligence have the option of pursuing recompense in a California civil court.
