California music teacher accused of sex crimes

by | May 9, 2016 | Firm News, Sex Crimes

Over the course of their careers, teachers will likely come into contact with hundreds of students. Their relationships with their students differ based on a variety of different circumstances. Unfortunately, officials in California believe that a long-time music teacher sexually abused some of his students. The man now faces multiple charges as a result of the sex crimes allegations.

Reports indicate that the 66-year-old man worked as a teacher at a high school for several years. After leaving the school, he reportedly gave private lessons. In February, he was arrested as a result of alleged lewd acts against an 11-year-old girl.

Additionally, he was arrested as a result of allegations stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred in 2009. While details of the allegations are unclear, he reportedly faces similar charges in both cases. He is currently being held on bail.

Although it is unclear what evidence supports these suspicions, prosecutors apparently believe that there could be additional victims that are unknown at this time. Sex crimes allegations such as these are serious and deserve thorough investigations. However, because of the nature of the allegations, it is easy to forget that those accused are considered innocent until proved otherwise. In order to obtain a conviction, there must be evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt — a standard that is often difficult to meet if the only evidence is one person’s word against another’s. Those in California who have been charged with such crimes often hire experienced attorneys to guide them through the process and ensure they are treated lawfully throughout criminal proceedings.
