California motorcycle accidents: Police investigate fatality

by | May 23, 2016 | Firm News, Motorcycle Accidents

Motorcyclists often face the potential of serious harm when involved in an accident. Because bikers have less physical protections and are sometimes more difficult to spot due to their smaller size in comparison to traditional motor vehicles, motorcycle accidents often result in a fatality. Unfortunately, one man was recently killed in a collision in California.

The accident happened on a California roadway just after 2 a.m. one morning in May. According to reports, the victim’s motorcycle was struck in the rear by a sedan driven by a woman. As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist — said to be in his 20s —  was ejected from the motorcycle.

Reports indicate that the man, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene. The driver of the sedan reportedly remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. While field sobriety tests led police to believe that she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident, it is unclear if authorities anticipate filing criminal charges. The accident likely remains under investigation.

Motorcycle accidents such as this often leave California families both grieving the loss of their loved one and worried about their financial future. For many, the burden of funeral expenses and loss of wages is more than they can handle. Fortunately, there are legal options available. A successfully presented wrongful death case can result in an award of damages that will allow them to better cope with the financial fallout of their loss.
