Car accidents in California: 1 killed, 1 injured in collision

The majority of people in California take reasonable precautions in order to ensure their safety. For example, many choose to wear their seatbelt. Unfortunately, even the most careful people are unable to avoid the negligent acts of others and can be involved in car accidents through no fault of their own. One family is surely mourning the loss of their loved one after a fatal collision while a young woman works to recover from serious injuries.

The accident, which ultimately involved five vehicles, occurred in late March. Police claim that a 52-year-old driver driving south on a California Interstate was unable to avoid striking a second vehicle because he was driving at a high rate of speed. The force of the collision pushed the second vehicle into a third and ultimately involved a total of five vehicles.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 21-year-old man, died at the scene of the accident. His passenger, an 18-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries. At least four other people were injured in the accident. While police did not take anyone into custody, the investigation into the incident is likely ongoing and charges may be forthcoming.

In the aftermath of car accidents, victims are left trying to put their lives back together. For the injured, this means working toward recovery while the families of the deceased must cope with life without their loved one. Additionally, these victims often face an unstable financial future because of the financial ramifications -- including medical bills, funeral costs and loss of wages -- that often follow an accident such as this. Many victims in California choose to file a civil lawsuit as a result. If negligence can be proved, plaintiffs could receive an award of damages.
