California truck accidents: Teen killed while walking to school

Recently, news regarding California schools was splashed on media across the country. One of the largest school systems in the nation made the decision to close schools as a result of an electronic threat received. While this news caused the nation to buzz, one family faced the knowledge that their loved one, a student walking to school without knowing that school had been canceled, had been killed. Like other victims of truck accidents, the family may be struggling as a result of their loss.

The accident happened at approximately 7:30 one morning in mid-December. Reports indicate that the 17-year-old victim was attempting to cross the street when he was struck by a city-owned truck attempting a left turn. Reports claim that the 27-year-old male driver -- an employee of the city -- stayed at the scene.

The young man passed away as a result of injuries he suffered in the accident. The area where the accident occurred has apparently been a topic of discussion for some, with advocates seeking to make the area safer by reducing speeds and adding bike lanes. A representative for the school claims that the school is in mourning over the student who was described as a "standout."

Families in California who lose loved ones in truck accidents often face a variety of difficult of obstacles. In addition to their grief, they are often overcome with the financial ramifications of their loss, including funeral expenses. As a result, many people consult with an experienced personal injury attorney to help family members identify all responsible parties and take appropriate legal action.
