Car accidents: Police make arrest in California hit-and-run

There are areas that most people are aware are unsafe. However, many would believe that they are reasonably safe as they walk on the sidewalks of their neighborhood -- they might assume they are safe from car accidents while they do so. Unfortunately, police say that a one woman walking on a California sidewalk was run down by a vehicle driven by a teenager in a hit-and-run accident.

The event happened during the early morning hours of a day in mid-June. Police claim that a young woman was walking with a friend on a sidewalk when she was struck from behind by a vehicle. Reports indicate that as a result of the impact, she was thrown approximately 40 feet.

Although the friend who witnessed the accident was unable to identify what type of vehicle struck the woman, police say they were able to discover the type of vehicle based on evidence left at the scene. Once the name of the suspected driver, a 17-year-old male, was released, police were able to locate him thanks to an anonymous tip. He has since been arrested. While a charge of felony hit-and run is suspected, additional charges are possible. The parents of the 25-year-old victim say that although she has shown improvement since the accident, doctors say that there is little chance that she will be able to walk again.

This victim will likely require long-term care as a result of her accident. She will potentially need the assistance of medical technology, including wheelchairs, as well as modifications to her home and vehicle to accommodate the disabilities suffered in the accident. Many victims of car accidents in California seek to recover damages by filing a personal injury lawsuit, An experienced attorney can help this young lady in a variety of ways, including determining the merits of her case and identifying all parties believed responsible for her injuries.
