California truck accidents: 1 killed, 3 injured in highway crash

Many adults in America have a certain routine. While the exact details of their routine may vary, millions wake up every morning, prepare for the day and drive to work. Few expect that such mundane activities could result in a fatality. Unfortunately, truck accidents in California could happen at any time, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. Police are continuing the investigation into an accident involving two tractor-trailers and three vehicles that took one woman's life.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred just before 8 a.m. one morning in early May. Although traffic was slowing, the 48-year-old driver of a tractor-trailer allegedly failed to notice, reportedly causing his truck to plow into the back of three vehicles and a second tractor-trailer. A 25-year-old woman died at the scene.

One of the drivers of the struck vehicles suffered serious injuries, while both tractor-trailer drivers also required treatment. The accident remains under investigation. However, officials say that they do not suspect that alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

Because of the potential harm that could be caused with a collision with a tractor-trailer, there are certain regulations in place restricting the number of hours a driver of such a vehicle can work. Failure to follow these regulations could result in serious fatigue that could slow reaction time, among other potential consequences. Because victims of truck accidents frequently face significant financial ramifications, including medical bills, lost wages and funeral expenses, many people turn to an experienced personal injury lawyer to investigate the accident and fight for them. A California attorney can examine driving logs and also help determine who may be culpable, potentially including the driver and his or her employee.
