Volunteer coach suspected of sex crimes in California

Teachers and coaches often have special relationships with the students they interact with on a day-to-day basis. In some cases, students may spend more time with their coaches than they do their own parents, facilitating the relationship. However, California police believe that one volunteer coach may have crossed a line with some students, and he has since been taken into a custody as he is suspected of sex crimes.

The 46-year-old man has been a football coach since 1998. His suspected victims are both current and former students. He is currently being held in lieu of a $450,000 bail.

While he is accused of sexual assault, there are many details about the case that are unclear. For example, it is unclear how the alleged crimes came to the attention of local authorities and what evidence police may have to support the claims against him. However, police say they do suspect that some of his victims may now be adults, and they are asking such victims to come forward.

Allegations regarding sex crimes are serious and require a serious investigation. Due to the sensitive nature of such alleged crimes, it may be easy to forget that people who are facing these accusations are presumed innocent until it is proved otherwise. To do so, a California prosecutor will need to provide sufficient evidence to remove reasonable doubt. Because the average person has little experience with the criminal system, it may be prudent to seek the guidance of an experienced professional to help make informed decisions and ensure lawful treatment throughout the process.
