California motorcycle accidents: 3 motorcyclists hit by SUV

by | Feb 24, 2015 | Firm News, Motorcycle Accidents

Many motorcycle enthusiasts in California love that the weather allows them to indulge in their passion all year. Unfortunately, a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle can have serious ramifications for the motorcyclist. Many motorcycle accidents even lead to fatalities. For example, one man was killed in a recent accident that involved three motorcyclists and an SUV.

The accident happened on one afternoon in mid-February. Police say that a 19-year-old man was driving an SUV on a California highway. According to reports, he lost control  as he attempted to navigate through a turn, propelling him into oncoming traffic.

He reportedly clipped a 55-year-old motorcyclist before slamming head on into a motorcycle operated by a 44-year-old rider who died at the scene of the accident. The SUV then struck a third motorcyclist, a 54-year-old man. The two surviving motorcyclists were transported by helicopter to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the SUV also suffered minor injuries. Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident, but it remains under investigation, although it is unclear if charges are anticipated.

Because of this accident, one California family is left grieving while two men may be fighting for their lives. Motorcycle accidents, such as this, often have more than physical and emotional consequences. Some victims and their families are left trying to cope financially as a result of medical expenses, funeral costs and lost wages. Fortunately, those suffering as a result of another’s negligence have legal options. An experienced personal injury attorney can review the details of a case and explain the different options available.
