Car accidents: California man dies due to drinking and driving

by | Oct 12, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

The average driver encounters multiple traffic signs and signals even when just taking a short drive. Many people do not fully understand the importance of these signs until they are directly faced with a person’s failure to obey them, which could result in serious car accidents. Unfortunately, the family of one man in California is coping with the death of their loved one after a driver allegedly failed to obey a stop sign while driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident happened one evening in late September. Police say that the 24-year-old driver of a pickup truck caused the accident. According the reports, he failed to stop at a stop sign, causing his truck to slam into a sedan containing at least four people. Police believe that he was intoxicated at the time.

A passenger in the truck was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Four people in the sedan also suffered injuries. Criminal charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the pickup upon his release from the hospital.

Serious car accidents such as this can cause financial difficulties for those injured or the families of those who die as a result. However, filing — and successfully arguing — a personal injury or wrongful death claim in a California civil court could provide relief for expenses from an accident caused by another’s negligence, including medical costs, funeral expenses and lost wages. While a conviction regarding criminal charges stemming from the accident is not necessary, it could help bolster any negligence claims against the accused.
