California car accidents: Man killed after rear-end collision

by | Oct 26, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Millions of people travel the nation’s roadways every day. While most will arrive at their destination safely, some will not. Unfortunately, car accidents can have serious consequences, resulting in fatalities or serious injuries. Police in California continue to investigate a serious accident that resulted in a fatality.

The accident occurred one afternoon in late October. Police say that a sedan driven by a 41-year-old man was rear-ended by another vehicle. The collision pushed the sedan into oncoming traffic, where it struck a commercial vehicle head-on.

The driver of the sedan died at the scene. A teenager in the sedan was seriously injured and had to be transported by helicopter for treatment. The driver of the commercial vehicle appeared to have only suffered minor injuries, while the other driver was uninjured. Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident. It is unclear if criminal charges are expected to be filed.

Car accidents such as this can have serious emotional, physical and financial consequences. While the family of the deceased man grieves his death, they will also have to cope with funeral expenses and the potential loss of his income. The injuries suffered by the teenage passenger will likely require expensive medical care, potentially placing a drain on his family’s financial resources. Many people in California who have found themselves in a similar situation have sought financial relief in a civil court. In some cases, those who were able to prove such an accident was caused by another’s negligence received an award of monetary damages to address the financial consequences of the tragedy pursuant to applicable laws.
