There are many people who want to make a difference in the world. For some people, this means dedicating their life to working with young people in the role of a coach, teacher or other mentor. California police claim that one high school football coach had less than noble goals. He now faces embezzlement charges and has been put on leave.
The suspected embezzlement was reported to the school’s resource officer in Aug. 2014. This officer then reported the accusations. As a result, the house of the 42-year-old football coach was searched. It is unclear at this time what, if anything, was discovered relating to the charges against him as a result of this search.
The coach, whose youngest child is a student at the school where he works, has since been arrested, charged with embezzling thousands of dollars raised to support school athletics. He posted a $15,000 bail and was released. It is unclear what the man is believed to have done with the money.
When handling money for schools, there are often a lot of rules and procedures that must be followed. In this case, it is unclear how and if California authorities determined that the actions leading to the embezzlement charge were not simply the result of failing to follow protocol before purchasing a needed item for the school, for example. While many of the details surrounding this case are unclear, it is clear that anyone facing criminal charges has certain rights to protect them as they navigate through the judicial process.
