Wrong way car accidents: California woman arrested after fatality

by | Aug 22, 2016 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Travelers in California should feel safe on the state’s roadways at all times. Unfortunately, reckless drivers can put the lives of others at risk due to the choices they make — such as driving under the influence of alcohol — that could lead to car accidents. Police have recently arrested a woman for driving under the influence after a head-on collision took a driver’s life.

Police claim that they received reports of a wrong-way driver on a highway around 1 a.m. one morning in mid-August. Shortly after these reports, an accident involving three vehicles was reported. The vehicle allegedly headed the wrong way collided head-on with one in the correct lane. Both cars came to a stop on the roadway without their lights, ultimately causing a delivery truck to hit them.

One of the female drivers was transported to the hospital where she later died, presumably from injuries suffered in the collision. The other driver was transported by helicopter. Conversations with this person led officers to believe that she was under the influence of alcohol, resulting in her arrest. The delivery man suffered minor injuries. Police are still investigating the accident.

While the police and other authorities attempt to hold drivers who are believed to have caused car accidents through negligence accountable for their actions, surviving family members are often left wondering how they will cope with the financial consequences of their loss. Funeral expenses in addition to lost wages are often unexpected costs with which many people are unable to cope. As a result, many in California seek recompense in a civil court. A successfully presented case often results in a monetary award to help surviving family members cope with such costs.
