Car accidents: Man arrested following fatal California collision

The average person likely makes multiple decisions in his or her everyday life. While many of these decisions will likely have very little impact on a long-term basis, some -- such as the decision to drink and drive resulting in car accidents -- can significantly alter the course of the individual's life, as well as the lives of others. For example, police in California believe that a young man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of an accident that resulted in one teenager's death and sent several others to the hospital.

Police say that the 21-year-old driver of a sedan was speeding on a California roadway when he lost control if the vehicle. As a result, it reportedly struck a tractor trailer, a guardrail and a third vehicle. One of the occupants of the first vehicle -- a 16-year-old female -- was ejected, resulting in fatal injuries.

Three other occupants suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment, one of whom suffered serious injuries. The driver of the first vehicle has since been arrested and now faces several charges. These charges include felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter and driving on a suspended license.

While the investigation into the incident is ongoing, it is clear that the lives of many people -- including the family members of the deceased teenager -- will likely never be the same. Unfortunately, many victims of car accidents such as this find themselves struggling with medical bills and funeral expenses as a result of the death of a loved one. To help cope with these expenses when they occur at the hands of a negligent driver, some choose to file a civil lawsuit against those they feel are responsible. An experienced attorney can help such victims better understand the paths that could lead to a verdict in their behavior.
