California car accidents: Woman killed in rear-end collision

by | Oct 26, 2015 | Car Accidents, Firm News

Many people in California have a routine. They wake up every morning and go to work. Unfortunately, people sometimes become so accustomed to their routine, they often go through it without fully attending to the actions they are taking — including driving. Because of this, some people may be less aware of unexpected changes, potentially causing serious car accidents. Police are still investigating a recent accident that has resulted in a fatality.

The accident happened just after 6:30 a.m. one morning in mid-October. According to reports, a car was headed east on a California road. Police say that the car slowed in order to make a turn, but the driver of a pickup truck, an 18-year-old male, failed to notice.

As a result, the truck struck the sedan in the rear, killing a 49-year-old female passenger in the sedan. Police have yet to release the identity of the victim or the driver of the pickup. It is unclear what — if any — charges are expected to be filed, but the accident remains under investigation.

Many people in California often overlook the potential implications of a single moment of distraction, even if that distraction is thinking about something other than the task at hand. Driving requires the full attention of a driver. Without it, serious car accidents can occur before the driver even knows what is happening. In addition to criminal charges, negligent drivers often face civil litigation. By filing and successfully presenting a wrongful death or personal injury lawsuit, some victims have been able to receive some degree of financial relief, both helping their situation and holding negligent parties accountable for their actions.
