California motorcycle accidents: 2 killed after illegal U-turn

There are many people in California who choose to use a motorcycle as a form of transportation as well as a hobby. Unfortunately, motorcycle accidents can place riders at a serious risk. For example, two men have died after they crashed their motorcycles into a pickup truck on a California roadway.

The accident happened one night in late August. Police claim that a 62-year-old man driving a pickup truck made an illegal U-turn across double solid lines. After executing the turn, police say he stopped for unknown reasons, but he was in the path of two motorcyclists. Although reports indicate they attempted to avoid a collision, the two men on motorcycles were unable to and ultimately crashed into the side of the pickup truck.

One of the motorcyclists, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second, a 24-year-old man, suffered serious critical injuries and died approximately a week later. The driver of the pickup was also treated for injuries suffered in the accident. Although his current condition is unclear, his injuries are believed to be less serious. Also unclear is whether criminal charges are expected to be filed.

In the aftermath of fatal motorcycle accidents such as this, families are left grieving their loved ones. Additionally, they may also be left wondering how they will cope with the financial ramifications of the accident. While no one is emotionally prepared for the unexpected loss of a family member, those who are unable to cope with the financial ramifications have the option of seeking relief in a California civil court. If it can be proved that a driver's negligence caused an accident, family members could be awarded damages to help them cope with the associated costs.
