California car accidents: Street racing suspected in fatal crash

by | Jun 11, 2015 | Car Accidents, Firm News

There are some people in California who live for the thrill of the adrenaline rush created by risk. There are many relatively safe ways to experience this — skydiving or bungee jumping, for example. However, some people turn to more dangerous, and illegal, activities such as street racing, which can cause serious car accidents. Unfortunately, the California Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal accident in which street racing is suspected.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred one afternoon in early June. Police say that a car was traveling significantly over the speed limit at the time of the accident. It is believed that the 24-year-old male driver went into a different lane of traffic and lost control, causing his vehicle to crash into a pole. The force of the collision broke the pole and also damaged several trees in the vicinity.

Both the driver and his passenger were ejected from the vehicle. The driver was transported to a hospital where he is said to be suffering from serious injuries. The passenger, whose identity has yet to be released, died at the scene.

The loss of a loved one is always a difficult event for family members. However, the unexpected loss in a completely preventable accident may be even more difficult to bear. As other victims of car accidents can attest, the family will also have to cope with the financial ramifications of their loss — including lost wages and funeral expenses — in addition to their grief. In order to reduce the financial burden created by someone else’s negligence, many people turn to the California civil court. While an award of damages as a result of a successfully presented case will likely do little to lessen their grief, it could help family members better cope with the costs stemming from the unexpected loss of a loved one.
