California truck accidents: Woman killed by gravel truck

by | Mar 30, 2015 | Firm News, Truck Accidents

Construction projects in California are one of the many ways that areas are kept safe and accessible for drivers and pedestrians. Unfortunately, the equipment used for such projects has the potential of causing serious, even fatal, incidents, including truck accidents. For example, police say that a pregnant woman was recently killed in an accident involving a construction vehicle.

The accident happened one morning in March. Reports indicate that the bed of a gravel truck was raised in order to dump a load of gravel as part of a construction project for the city. A woman was sitting in her car nearby, waiting to back out of her driveway with the assistance of another construction worker.

Unfortunately, the bed of the truck fell over, landing on the vehicle, Although a witness says that workers were eventually able to remove the door of the car, police officers determined that the woman had passed away. The woman was approximately two months pregnant. She leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter who reportedly witnessed the accident.

According to reports, a woman who was simply sitting in a driveway has now lost her life, apparently through no fault of her own. While coping with their grief, the family of the woman will also have to cope with the financial consequences of her loss. In addition to funeral costs, the cost of caring for a young child can often be overwhelming. Many victims of truck accidents, or their loved ones in the event of a fatality, have sought financial relief in a California civil court. If negligence can be proved, her family members could receive a monetary award to help cope with the financial and other consequences of the loss.
