California car accidents: Speed suspected in fatal crash

Many different safety measures have been put in place to keep people safe on California roadways. Unfortunately, many people view these measures as guidelines or recommendations, rather than laws that must be followed. As a result, fatal car accidents occur far too often on state roadways. For example, police believe that a recent accident was caused by a speeding tow truck.

The accident happened one morning in March. According to reports, traffic had stopped. A tow truck driver was allegedly speeding and unable to stop in time for the stalled traffic. As a result, it is believed that he slammed into the back of a subcompact car driven by a 32-year-old woman. The force of the collision pushed the car into the back of the car in front of it, causing a chain reaction that ultimately involved several more vehicles.

The driver in the subcompact car died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the accident. Police note that the airbags deployed, and her seat belt was buckled at the time. At least two other people were taken to the hospital but are expected to survive. No charges have been filed at this time as the California Highway Patrol is still investigating.

Regardless of whether investigators choose to file criminal charges, the family members of the deceased woman still have to deal with the loss of their loved one. Unfortunately, some families who have dealt with the grief associated with such a loss also have to cope with the financial ramifications, which can include loss of wages and funeral expenses. Many victims of car accidents -- or their family members in the event of a fatality -- who could prove that another's negligence caused their injury or loss have turned to a California civil court for financial relief.
