Wrongful death claims result from fatal California car accidents

by | Sep 30, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

There are many types of drivers. Most obey traffic laws and remain vigilant at all times in order to preserve their personal safety as well as the safety of their passengers and others using the roadways. Unfortunately, even the safest of drivers cannot avoid car accidents that are caused by distracted, unsafe drivers. One man faces criminal charges after a California accident killed a teenager and seriously injured her grandmother.

In mid-September, a 26-year-old male was traveling on a California highway. Police reports suggest that the man did not slow in time for stopped traffic. As a result, he apparently slammed into the back of a car containing a 45-year-old woman and her 16-year-old granddaughter. The force of the collision pushed the car into the back of a sports utility vehicle and caused the car to catch fire.

The teenager died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the collision. The other woman was seriously injured and transported to the hospital for treatment. While family members indicate that her condition has improved, she is still in poor condition. The driver of the first vehicle has now been charged with vehicular manslaughter and was being held on bail.

A family in California is now facing a tragedy as a result of one man’s alleged negligence. In addition to coping with the death of their daughter, they must also help in the recovery of the girl’s grandmother. In addition to their grief, the family is likely facing a tremendous financial obstacle. Many people who have faced similar consequences as a result of California car accidents have sought financial relief in a civil court. In cases where it can be proved that another person’s negligence caused an injury or death, monetary damages could be awarded to alleviate the financial ramifications resulting from such an accident, including medical bills, funeral expenses and lost wages.
